Arran
The Hayshed, Ploughman's Bothy and Blacksmith's Bothy, each sleeping four, are located on Ivy Cottage Farm, on the upper slopes of the lovely pastoral Corriecravie Valley, with breathtaking sea views across the Sound of Kilbrannan to Kintyre. Our cottages offer the perfect location for those seeking relaxation, natural beauty and adventure.
The Hayshed is a skilful reconstruction (retaining the original stone walls) of a former agricultural store into a comfortable modern cottage. We have recently completed a large accessible, ground floor extension to the existing historic Hayshed building. The extension provides a sunny, open plan dining, lounge and kitchen area with cosy wood burning stove, smart TV and underfloor heating. Picture windows from the extension look out to fantastic views of the sea, the coast of Kintyre and our beautiful Corriecravie valley. On the ground floor of the original Hayshed we now have a double bedroom with king sized bed and a spacious bathroom with accessible features such as a wheelchair accessible shower. There is a ramp leading to a level entry front door and easy parking adjacent to the access ramp. One doggie companion is welcome by prior arrangement. Parking for two cars.
The old ploughman would hardly now recognise the Ploughman's Bothy, which is a skilful reconstruction made to high modern standards. Original features such as the stone end-wall and the old fireplace, complete with its cooking 'swee', have been retained and form a nostalgic backdrop to the present Bothy lounge. The dining room extension affords fantastic sea and valley views. There is a cosy wood burning stove and underfloor heating for added comfort. A characterful spiral staircase leads to the twin and double bedrooms. There is a well-appointed kitchen with all modern conveniences. One doggie companion is welcome by prior arrangement. Parking for one car.
The Blacksmith's Bothy offers guests a peaceful and scenic getaway on the Isle of Arran. Originally the site of a working forge and blacksmith's quarters, the Bothy has been thoughtfully rebuilt on new foundations, blending its rich history with modern comforts. As part of the Arran Far Horizons collection of cottages, the Blacksmith's Bothy offers a cozy retreat for up to 4 guests (no pets). The interior features warm oak furnishings, leather lounge furniture and a wood burning stove. There is a small conservatory for enjoying the spectacular sunsets and there is a small private garden area (up a few steep steps) for summer sundowners. Parking for one car.
The site is accessed down a stone track from the road. Below the farm, there is pedestrian access down a steep and rough field track to the shore, with a breathtaking panorama of sea, land and sky from the top of the Braes, and the opportunity to see seals, otters and migratory birds along the rocky shoreline. Here at Far Horizons you'll find comfort combined with rural peace, inspiring views, clean sea air - come and enjoy!
