Cuil Moss Cottage

Located on Ardgour Estate on the scenic Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Cuil Moss Cottage is a 2015 and 2016 finalist in the Highlands and Islands Awards Best Holiday Accommodation category, with a Green Tourism Gold Award.  This 5 star self-catering cottage sleeps two, offering a comfortable and luxurious base in which to soak up some beautiful Scottish scenery and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – and it even has its very own stargazing/wildlife watching tower.  We caught up with owner Annie Maclean to find out more about the cottage and the area, and why it’s perfect for a romantic retreat.

Can you tell us a bit more about Cuil Moss Cottage and its features?

We know just how special holidays are and aim to exceed the expectations of every couple that choose to holiday at Cuil Moss Cottage.

Cuil Moss Cottage is nestled down its own driveway under Scots pine trees.  The building has been given the full luxury treatment, with a contemporary interior that has kept all the charm of its former life as a shepherd’s bothy.

Once you step inside, the kitchen provides everything you need to prepare locally sourced shellfish, high quality local produce or to store ample wine for the duration of your stay.  It is fully equipped with everything you would expect and more including a modern range master cooker, dishwasher, coffee machine, and the Belfast sink and oak work tops finish it off.  When the weather is fine, you can open the large concertina doors onto the patio area for a barbecue, or a glass of wine outside.

The sunny bedroom enjoys a romantic king-size bed, with luxurious bed linen, and views from the windows through to the woodland.

The bathroom provides a luxury space to unwind after a day enjoying the hills and beaches of Ardgour and Ardnamurchan.  Either the enormous waterfall shower or double ended spa bath will have you relaxed in no time.  On arrival the bathroom will be fully stocked with local Highland Soap Co toiletries, ample fluffy towels and of course bathrobes and slippers in order to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Venture into the woodlands surrounding the cottage and you will discover your very own private wildlife watching and star gazing tower.  With no air pollution the dark night skies are amazing.  Sit back and enjoy the peace, quiet and tranquillity day or night, of course complete with mini wood burning stove and luxury arm chairs.

The atmospheric glens, dramatic scenery and beautiful beaches are the perfect backdrop for any couple to enjoy a romantic break. Honeymoon, mini moon, special occasion or indeed just spending some much needed quality time together – Cuil Moss Cottage is perfect for two, giving privacy and luxury to get away from the world and relax together.

What are some of your highlights of the local area?

Once you step outside you are right among Scotland’s rugged glens, remote beaches, and dramatic scenery.  Salachan Beach is only a stroll away, which offers a stunning view up to Ben Nevis, across to Glencoe and down to the Isle of Mull.

Pack a picnic and spend a fabulous day exploring the beautiful Ardnamurchan and Morvern Peninsular, with its white sandy beaches and true wilderness feel.  Ardgour Estate is a great place to base yourself.

There are also the the distilleries to explore, and whole host well known visitor attractions near by; the steam train, Ben Nevis, and the Isle of Mull to name just a few.

What can guests expect from a winter break at Cuil Moss Cottage?

Winter  is often a magical time of year.  Our forested glens are changing colour in all their splendour, then when the temperature drops and the mountains are covered in snow, bright frosty mornings and awesome winter sunsets are not to be missed – my own favourite spot to capture them is in Glen Gour here on Ardgour.

Wildlife is easy to spot in the winter with the Stags down off the tops of the hill, and our local colony of seals resting up on easy to view islands just off the beach.

Lochaber is perfect for winter enthusiasts.  With two ski resorts just 30 minutes from the cottage door (Nevis Range and Glencoe), a vast array of mountain climbing and ice climbing options available locally make it perfect to explore the natural mountains.

Of course once you return home a warm welcome awaits you in Cuil Moss Cottage, from both the sustainably supplied underfloor heating throughout and the cosy log burning fire with an unlimited supply of kindling and logs from our certified forestry.  Sit back on the comfy sofas and enjoy the complimentary whisky.
