With breathtaking views, a private rooftop hot tub, and a romantic loch-side setting, the White Tower is a luxurious place to escape from it all. This historic, 5 star self-catering apartment near Kenmore in Highland Perthshire was built in 1506 as the look-out tower for Taymouth Castle. Overlooking Loch Tay, the White Tower enjoys stunning views of the loch and mountains, and is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or simply recharge the batteries.
We spoke to Bianca Leibbrand from the property’s Accommodation Team to find out more about this unique apartment and what you can expect from a stay here.
What makes The White Tower such a special place to stay?
It is is accessible yet private; ancient, yet with every modern comfort; and surrounded on all sides with breathtaking scenery. The White Tower also comes with great history – Queen Victoria and Prince Albert dropped by here on their honeymoon!
We have seen so many proposals, honeymoons and anniversaries celebrated at The White Tower and when you stand at the roof top, taking in the views you know why! The uninterrupted views from your very own hot tub make this property so unique.
Also the fact that it is completely secluded – there are no neighbours, guests collect their keys from a key safe so they don’t even have to interact with us, the staff, if they don’t want to.
There is even a helicopter landing space for your grand entry if you wish… There are just so many features that make this property truly unique!
Can you tell us about some of the features of The White Tower?
Eric and Naomi Strickland have owned the Tower since 2005. It had not previously been maintained over the years but Eric’s professional know-how as an architect helped steer the project through the official channels associated with the renovation of a listed, historic structure, and they transformed the White Tower to what it is today.
The dining-kitchen is on the ground floor with French doors to a terraced patio, ideal for al-fresco breakfasts. Down a few steps leads to the sauna and shower, and up a few steps takes you to the lounge with its beautiful drapes, luxury furnishings and a wood burning stove. A double bedroom with an en-suite shower room is on the first floor, as well as a small library and the entrance to the Master Suite. The Master Suite is spread over the first and second floor, with its own bathroom and stairs to the roof with its hot tub and stunning views. The main bathroom has a lovely free standing bath and great views.
Other than relaxing in the hot tub and soaking up the rooftop views, how else can guests unwind during a stay?
Unwind in your very own sauna or book a massage at the local beauty facilities in Aberfeldy! There are 8 acres of private woodland surrounding The White Tower which is ideal for peaceful walks.
Where in the area would you recommend for a romantic meal?
The Taymouth Marina Restaurant, just a short 5 minute away from The White Tower, boasts equally good views across Loch Tay. Focussing on local produce it is the perfect spot for a romantic meal!
Can you name one thing not to miss during a stay?
Easy! Make sure you bring a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries, wait until the sun starts to set and head your way up to the rooftop to enjoy a soak in your very own hot tub!
