Accessed from the sunroom, the garden of heathers and azaleas has a picnic table, a bench and stand for a disposable barbeque in a sunny spot looking over a field towards Loch Awe.

Accessibility

All rooms are on one level with 3 steps and handrail to entrance door and 2 steps to the garden.  A gravel path encircles this holiday cottage.

Wildlife

Pine marten are regular night-time visitors to this garden which home to many birds and a nut feeder is provided for the birds outside of the summer months. Red deer come down from the higher hill to graze the green grass in the field below in the cooler months

Out & About

Guests are welcome to explore the farm and fishing permits for Loch Awe are available online.

Locally, guests enjoy the falcolnry demonstrations at Kintail Bird of Prey just 5 miles away in Eredine Village, and Cladich Farm Tours offer the chance to visit and get close to the award winning highland cattle of the Cladich Fold.  For eating out along the lochside there are restaurants at Ardbrecknish House & Bar and Portsonachan Hotel.

At the head of Loch Awe, under Ben Cruachan, you will find Lochawe Village with shop & post office, St Conan's Kirk and tearoom, and the Ben Cruachan Inn.  Cruachan Power Station is nearby with cafe and tours into the 'hollow mountain'.  Ben Cruachan is our nearest munro (mountain over 3,000ft).

The planned town of Inveraray by the shores of Loch Fyne is nice for lunch and a wander round the town or a visit to Inveraray Castle and the old Inveraray Jail.  Crarae gardens and Auchindrain Museum of Rural Life are also just a few miles from Inveraray.  West Highland and Wildlife Tours offer a great chance to explore and see wildlife on the hills on Argyll Estates.

Oban is the gateway to the isles with ferries to Mull for wildlife tours, wildlife & Fingals Cave or Iona Abbey & Fingals Cave.  The nearest island to Oban is Kererra where you can walk to Gylen Castle and Kererra Tea Garden.  Oban is also good for distillery tours, shopping, good fish & chips and restuarants.

One of the nicest scenic drives in the aea is along Glen Orchy across Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe on the way to Fort WIlliam/Ben Nevis (Nevis Range gondola, mountain biking and high wire circuit).  If you are lucky enought to get tickets, Fort William is also where you join the Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig.

In Taynuilt  you have the Robins Nest tearoom (eat in/take away), the old pier and the old Bonawe Iron Furnace.  Taynuilt also has a very good butcher, post office and grocer.

Turn left at the farm roadend will take you to Carnasserie Castle and the standing stones and rock art along Kilmartin Glen, Crinan Canal for a walk along the towpath and the cafe at Crinan Basin plus the village of Tayvallich for lunch and a wander.   www.heartofargyll.com is a good source for ideas for the mid-Argyll area.
