We can leave guests to relax in total privacy or just give directions to the best beaches, walks, pubs etc or we can offer llama and hen feeding, taking a llama for a stroll through the village, having a spin in the motorcycle sidecar (weather dependent) or a musical jamming session with Alan in the main house.
Galloway, often called the Highlands in miniature, has hills, lochs, woods, beaches, coves and ancient castles virtually undiscovered by tourists. Wildlife includes red squirrels, otters, red kites, hedgehogs & deer. Outdoor activities abound. It's perfect for cyclists, having the 7-stane mountain bike trails, perfect for walkers and for golfers, with several beautiful golf courses within a few miles. There are plenty of peaceful fishing spots, great places for watersports and fishing. Galloway Activity Centre, by Loch Ken, offers some very silly activities and a lot of laughter. The gathering of Red Kites at 2pm each day at the feeding station at Laurieston is spectacular, snd there are wildlife reserves and bird-watching hides as well as spectacular dark skies and bright stars here. For children, when it's a bit too rainy for a day at the beach, a favorite is the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory and there are some great farm parks to see pygmy goats and cuddle guinea pigs.A trip to the distillery at Annan is popular with slightly older folk.
'The Food Town', Castle Douglas, is 5 miles away. It has supermarkets and several independent shops along the main street as well as good restaurants. Our nearest shop is 1.5 miles away. It's Springholm village shop - quite basic provisions and a cheerful shopkeeper. Our local village, Kirkpatrick Durham, has an abundance of artists who open their studio doors in the Spring Fling each year. A lady regularly sets up a mini bakery stall in the village but each batch of delicious bread and cakes goes fast so, if you aren't quick, you could miss it! The fish man brings delicious fresh seafood in his van at 7pm on Tuesdays. The Laurie Arms at the Haugh of Urr is child-friendly and serves great pub food by a roaring fire. The Inn on the Loch, near Crocketford, is very good too, and has paddleboard hire. The Galloway Arms in Crocketford serves great food.
