The Taymouth Marina Restaurant is not to miss. The loch-side setting is amazing and, with a view from every table, to sit and have a meal and watch the ever-changing light and bobbing boats in the marina is an absolute joy. Concentrating on using the very best Scottish produce, dining at Taymouth Marina is a great way to indulge the senses.
The Scottish Crannog Centre is located right next to Taymouth Marina and takes you back in time.
It looks like ideal for a family holiday – what kind of things can children enjoy on holiday here?
See above. The Taymouth Marina Watersports Centre offers kayaks and canoes for rent for adults as well as children and children love paddling to the wee island located in the centre of Loch Tay. We also have water donuts and other water based activities that are great fun for kids. The Scottish Crannog Centre makes for a fun and informative day out with the kids.
Guests of Taymouth Marina receive discounts for Highland Safaris and children love the Red Deer Centre and the Owl Encounter Experience.
Can you recommend some lesser-known sights and attractions not to miss?
There are several lovely walks nearby, particularly the Birks of Aberfeldy Walk which inspired Robert Burns to write the poem of the same name and the Kenmore to Acharn walk via the Queen’s Drive (so called because it was used by Queen Victoria while staying at Taymouth Castle during her honeymoon) passing the Falls of Acharn and the old Hermitage.
A highlight is also the Scottish Chocolate Centre which is Scotland’s first dedicated chocolate visitor centre with free entry, the story of chocolate, where cocoa is grown, harvested, fermented etc.
Can you share some of your highlights of Highland Perthshire?
Highlights include the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve which is a range of mountains, connecting ridges, cliffs and lochans, built of ancient rocks, home to the most celebrated collection of mountain plants in Britain.
Cluny House Gardens is a 2.4ha Himalayan/North American woodland garden overlooking the scenic Strathtay Valley and was planted and developed by the late Bobby and Betty Masterton from 1950. A feature of Cluny is its natural appearance, with many woodland plants regenerating and expanding freely beneath a canopy of rhododendrons, acers, rowans and birches.
