About

Brands

Bitter & Twisted – a balanced, refreshing, blonde beer with a malty-sweet aroma, fruity hoppiness and zesty flavour. Our best-selling brand.

Schiehallion – a ‘craft lager’ with complex aromas & flavours, a crisp palate and a lingering, grapefruity finish. The British alternative to mainstream, premium lager offerings.

Old Engine Oil – a smooth, velvety dark beer with overtones of coffee & chocolate and roasty, toasty flavours that ride with you all the way to the finish. A dark-beer-lovers’ delight.

Ola Dubh – with 3 variants in the core range and a number of special editions, each expression of Ola Dubh has its own unique flavour. But with all the beers one picks up a complexity of dark fruit, molasses, bittersweet chocolate and hints of peat. A luxury extension to the core range aimed at beer aficionados and the fine dining market.

History

Since 1983 we’ve been chasing after aftertastes; playing with world famous whisky casks and exploring the many possibilities of our craft. From the very beginning we’ve been on a mission to take our beer seriously, but not take ourselves too seriously…

The brewery was founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker in his garage at the foot of the Ochil Hills. In 1986, we expanded into a local steading where the brewery remained for the next 18 years. In 2004 we moved to our current location; a 60-barrel plant in Alva.

We were bought by Caledonian Brewery in 2006. However, when Caledonian were acquired by Scottish & Newcastle in 2008, three noble shareholders stepped up and returned us to independence.

Interesting Facts About Us

  1. Our strapline is ‘Crafted with a Twist’ because our mission is to make beers with unexpected flavour combinations that surprise and delight our drinkers.
  2. Brewing might sound like the best job in the world, but did you know that brewers spend about 50% of their time cleaning in order to maintain the sterile environment required for beer making?
