Stranraer

Stranraer lies at the head of Loch Ryan.  The town’s origins date back to 1511, when Stranraer Castle, also known as the Castle of St John, was built.  The castle now houses a museum, and you can also visit the Stranraer Museum in the old town hall. Three miles east of Stranraer you can explore Castle Kennedy Gardens, with its two lochs, giant lily pond and monkey puzzle trees.
