Environmental Tourism Quality Awards

The Green Tourism Business Scheme, launched in April 1998, has been devised to enable businesses working in the hospitality sector to be recognized for taking their environmental responsibilities seriously.

There are 3 standards:

• Gold – A rigorous level requiring screening of purchasing and supply
• Silver – A commitment to continuous improvement 
• Bronze – Fair and Acceptable

Members are encouraged to introduce measures which are designed to lessen the impact of their business on the environment. These can be as diverse as using low-energy light bulbs or corridor lights which go on when people approach, or using local produce on menus, or promoting wildlife walks and cycle hire in their area.
