Property Description

Oystercatchers is a traditional 1½ storey house, sleeping 6 in 3 bedrooms. It is located just 10 minutes from the Skye bridge or 20 minutes from the Mallaig-Armadale ferry if you come ‘over the sea’, yet as it is off the main A87 it is a true oasis of peace and quiet. The house and gardens stretch down to a tidal inlet overlooking the Ardnish Peninsula. There are uninterrupted views from the garden across Broadford Bay towards the Red Cuillin, the Isle of Scalpay and the mainland at Applecross, and the cairn on top of Beinn na Caillich is very tempting! The house was built in 1902 and has recently been fully refurbished to a very high standard – with a modern heating system, individually controlled in each room, a wood burning stove, 2 bath/shower rooms, wireless Internet access and new white goods.
The main garden is fenced, including the parking area which can take two cars, and we provide a barbecue and garden furniture so you can make the most of the good weather. There is substantial land outwith the stock fence, where you can enjoy a bay side fire or simply take in the view. The cottage is the perfect place to launch kayaks, canoes or dinghies as the water comes right up to the edge of the garden at High water springs,
If bird-watching is what you are interested in, Ardnish, being at the Eastern edge of Broadford Bay is one of the best birding spots on Skye.
Furnished for 6 adults, we also welcome children and provide a cot, high chair and safety gates.

Oystercatchers is our dream holiday home - and we have found Skye to be the ideal location if you like walking, birding or boating. We have always managed to find something of interest all year round, no matter what the weather! We enjoy visiting the various beauty spots on and near the island, watching the local birdlife, and our children are developing a keen interest in photography.
We are all keen boaters of various sorts - those are our boats you see stored in the bottom garden and we are continuing to work to improve both the outside and interior of the cottage, using teenage labour as often as we can get away with it! We have included photographic evidence of how hard the teenagers work on our Facebook page, which is linked to the cottage website.
As we have tried to make the most of the cottage for ourselves over the last couple of years, we have equipped it to our own requirements - we have provided Christmas dinner for 5; 7 birthday cakes in the last 2 years; various cakes and tray bakes, seasonal soup, jam from the apple tree in the upper garden, blackeberry crumble from our own pickings and catered for 9 people at one sitting. We have provided a bone china dinner service for fine dining; you can try a taste of the 70s with the fondue set; or there is the barbecue for the warmer weather - there are several cookbooks to inspire you and we are confident the catering equipment will not let you down as we have tried and tested it to the best of our abilities.
