Abhainn Cottage has been in the Macarthur family for 3 generations.
Completely renovated in 2009 by myself, and now run with my wife Kathleen we hope to provide guests with an enjoyable comfortable stay.
Built by my grandfather Donald Macarthur after World War 2, it was one of the many of it's type built around this era. The cottage was built using stone quarried by hand on the family croft at 21 Breasclete. After the war, materials were rationed so good wood was hard to come by. This was evident when renovating the house and stripping the old internal wood walls, where we found the walls were built using drift wood collected by the shore and skilfully positioned to form a straight wall.
Now fully renovated and finished to an exceptional standard, the cottage is ready for it's next chapter in welcoming lots of visitors to enjoy their Hebridean experience
With both of us having being born and brought up in the islands, we love to give our guests our best tips for exploring both Lewis and Harris.
